The classic Suikoden series, a beloved PS1 and PS2 RPG franchise, is making a return, but not in the way many fans had hoped. During the “Gensou Suikoden Live” event on March 4, 2025, Konami revealed a variety of projects to revitalize the franchise, including Suikoden: The Anime, an adaptation of Suikoden II. This marks the first TV anime produced by Konami Animation and will be directed by Yuzo Sato. While the anime aims to stay faithful to the original game’s story and characters, no release date has been announced yet. Additionally, Konami unveiled other initiatives such as a mobile game (Gensou Suikoden: Star Leap), a stage play adaptation of Suikoden I, and a manga based on the new mobile game.
Suikoden STAR LEAP is an entirely new addition to the #Suikoden series and is the first title to be tailored for mobile platforms! 🌟 🌟

Although these announcements celebrate the 30th anniversary of Suikoden and highlight Konami’s commitment to reintroducing the franchise to a new generation, some fans remain disappointed by the absence of a new mainline game. While the upcoming Suikoden I&II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars offers a chance to revisit the classics, many were hoping for a fully-fledged sequel or revival of the series in gaming form. Instead, Konami’s focus on multimedia adaptations signals a different approach to expanding Suikoden’s legacy beyond its roots as a video game series.
