Hamster Corporation have been releasing their Arcade Archives titles to Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 since 2014, and now they’re expanding the range by releasing Neo Geo titles to Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, under the banner of “Arcade Archives 2”. These Neo Geo titles will offer unspecified “added new features,” and the first in the series of Neo Geo games will be the brawler The King of Fighters ’98, which is set to be released globally today (February 27, 2025). Hamster Corporation have previously released The King of Fighters ’98 as part of their mainline Arcade Archives series, but obviously without the promised “new features” of this new “Arcade Archives 2” version.
The very first Neo Geo King of Fighters game was released by SNK back in 1994, with The King of Fighters ’98 following in – you guessed it – 1998! SNK also released more titles in the series between these two, and more titles after The King of Fighters 98, with the most recent to date being 2023’s The King of Fighters XII: Global Match, though the final King of Fighters game to be released for the Neo Geo was The King of Fighters 2003.
This new release of the Neo Geo classic King of Fighters 98 for Xbox series X|S and PlayStation 5 follows hot on the heels of the regular PS4 & Switch Arcade Archives release of Dead Connection, on which we reported yesterday.
