We’ve been following news on the belated Gimmick! Sequel Gimmick! 2 quite closely here on Retro News, reporting on its announcement, reveal trailer, release dates, and even a physical release on Switch.
Releasing games on NES cartridges in the 21st-century may itself be regarded as something of a gimmick, when it’s much easier to run ROMs on an emulator, but we’re certainly happy to see that the NES fanbase is still strong enough that there’s still a market for new physical releases for NES.
No doubt inspired by the great interest in Gimmick! 2, Limited Run Games have announced that they’re re-releasing the original Gimmick! on NES cartridge.
Gimmick! Was originally released on Famicom in Japan in 1992, before a worldwide NES release followed a year later.
And now, some 32 years after its original NES release, Limited Run Games are bringing Gimmick! back to the format.
Limited Run Games are releasing Gimmick! For NES as a Collector’s Edition, which includes a unique green cartridge, poster, CD soundtrack, enamel pin, and a numbered foil slipcover inside a deluxe foil box. Pre-orders run from January 24 to February 23, but you can preview the release now on Limited Run’s website.
