VS. Family Tennis is yet another Namco title which was developed for Nintendo’s VS. arcade hardware, just like the previous Arcade Archives releases VS. Valkyrie’s Adventure: Legend of the Key of Time and VS. Super Xevious Mystery of Gump.
VS. Family Tennis was originally released into arcades by Namco in 1987, and, as you might expect for a game developed for Nintendo’s VS. hardware, Family Tennis was also released for Nintendo’s 8-bit Famicom home console (which is better known as the Nintendo Entertainment System internationally, of course). However, Family Tennis was only released in Japan, with no international NES release of the game, though the Super Famicom instalment of Family Tennis did receive a European release on Super Nintendo under the title Smash Tennis. but as of tomorrow (January 9, 2025), the original VS. arcade version of Family Tennis will be available for gamers to enjoy from the comfort of their own homes on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, as the latest instalment in Hamster Corporation’s weekly Arcade Archives releases.
In VS. Family Tennis, you have a choice of 16 unique characters who each have the ability to hit shots of different speeds and heights.
