ZPF became a Kickstarter sensation over the summer when it hit 10,000% over its target to be one of the most successful Mega Drive crowdfunding campaigns. Now, publisher Mega Cat Studio has opened up the pre-order so those who missed the initial campaign can now secure a copy for themselves. The Genesis and Mega Drive versions of ZPF are slated to ship in Q1 2025, with a Steam release to follow soon after.

The game is a horizontal shooter paying homage to the golden age of shooters while adding in some modern ideas. Players can expect to encounter screen-filling bosses as well as having three different ships to master. It also features beautiful pixel artwork and comes complete with a 16-bit chiptune soundtrack.

Reflecting on ZPF’s upcoming launch, the game’s creator and ZPF Team co-founder Gryzor said, “In 2019, I had no idea where this thing would even go. It didn’t have much direction or focus at the start, but the mess smoothed out, and eventually things clicked into place,” he continued, “By the time the Kickstarter was ready, I had done at least twice the work as any of my other projects…and still more going now. It’s felt like we’ve been finished three or four times already, but it’ll be nice to be finally done.”
