To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Donkey Kong Country, three new ROM hacks have been released, offering a fresh and challenging take on the beloved SNES classic. These hacks, created by ROM hacker Q using RainbowSprinklez’s RainbowZ Editor, are designed for players seeking a more intense experience, drawing inspiration from unlockable difficulty modes found in later games of the series.
The first hack, Challenge Edition, removes DK barrels and warp barrels. This means players cannot revive Donkey or Diddy Kong after losing them or skip sections of levels, significantly increasing the stakes. The second hack, Expert Edition, builds on this by also removing Star Barrel checkpoints, requiring players to complete each level in one flawless run. Finally, Hero Edition takes the difficulty even further by allowing players to control only Diddy Kong, who is weaker and trickier to handle compared to Donkey Kong. This mode is inspired by the “1 Player Hero Mode” from the Game Boy Advance version of Donkey Kong Country.
Released DKC Mirrored with @Rinbowsprinklez just earlier today. It's a full ROM hack of DKC which flips the levels around; you start from the exit and end at the beginning, but still move from left to right. It's quite a twist, hope you enjoy it!https://t.co/1YNP4iNFQb
