Sega Mega Drive/Genesis: Ultimate Works is an expanded edition of publisher Read-Only Memory’s original 2014 book. The book features an additional 48 pages of newly discovered visual material from the time of classic Mega Drive titles such as Alien Soldier, Kid Chameleon, Shinobi, Sonic and Phantasy Star IV. Other artwork and information in the articles have been updated with any new information ascertained through research in the last ten years.

The new edition is expected to be shipped in Spring 2025 and is available in two varieties. The standard edition is presented with a bookcase screen in three colours while the deluxe version includes a 261 × 187mm Phantasy Star IV archival print signed by Hitoshi Yoneda. Both editions will also include a custom mailer to round off the premium feel.

The book’s original content has also been updated to now include full-colour illustrations for the 80-page developer interview section. The pixel art gallery has also been expanded to include typefaces and animation layouts as well as several other upgrades to other sections.
