Casey’s Gold is a new homebrew title that’s being released for the legendary Atari 2600 console, and when it comes to retro consoles, it doesn’t get much more retro than the Atari 2600, which was first released way back in 1977, before even this ageing writer (the eldest of the current reporters at |Retro News) was born!
Of course, the Atari 2600 has seen something of a resurgence in recent times, with the updated Atari 2600+ console launching just last year, and the 2600 compatible Atari 7800+ hitting the shelves later this month.
The game’s publishers describe Casey’s Gold as follows: “you play as Casey O’Kelly, conductor for the Gold Rush Gulch Railroad. With the recent gold strike in the hills just outside of town, thousands of prospectors have inundated the sleepy town of Gold Rush Gulch and the railroad has been hired to move all that gold safely back East. But there’s just one problem, every train leaving the station has been sabotaged! It appears someone has broken into the train’s armored Gold Car and scattered all the gold bars around the train in hopes of collecting them when the train arrives at its destination. Now it’s up to you and Casey to search every train, find the missing gold bars and return them to the Gold Car.”
So, if you’re looking for a new game to play on your original Atari console or on your shiny new Atari 2600+ or Atari 7800+, you’ll be able to order Casey’s Gold directly from publisher Audacity from 12 noon PST on Monday November 25 2024.
