The Quest of Ki is the latest release from Hamster Corp.’s Arcade Archives line, which aims to preserve classic arcade games and make them playable for modern gamers. As per the line’s previous releases, The Quest of Ki is available on both PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
We like to keep track of Hamster Corp.’s Arcade Archives release here at Retro News, having previously reported on the recent release of Metamorphic Force, and on the forthcoming release of the first Macross arcade game, which is due next month.
This week’s Arcade Archives release is The Quest of Ki, which is known as Kai no Bōken in Japan. The game is a side-scrolling platform game that was originally released to arcades by Namco in 1988.
The Quest of Ki is notable as it features cameos from characters from some rather more famous Namco games, namely Pac-Man ghosts and the enemies from Dig Dug. The Quest of Ki was also featured as a challenge in the Japanese TV show GameCenter CX.
If you’re thinking that The Quest of Ki looks like a NES game, that’s because it was developed for Nintendo’s VS arcade system, which was based on Famicom (NES) hardware.
