ShipOS 1994 is a new resource management game with an unusual retro twist. As the name suggests, ShipOS 1994 is set 30 years ago, in 1994, but to reflect this, the game’s interface is based on an imagined operating system of that era.

The developer says that “In the game, you’ll step into the shoes of a 1990s shipping tycoon as you take charge of your own shipping empire.

You’ll lead a shipping company from the brink of bankruptcy, making critical choices to restore it to its former glory. The game offers an authentic throwback to the technology of the era, giving you the tools and software of a classic operating system designed specifically for shipping management. Every decision counts, from purchasing new ships and selecting the most profitable contracts to unlocking upgrades and accessing new ports. Each fleet is unique, with customised routes, tailored upgrades, and fleet expansion decisions that ensure no two companies are the same.”

ShipOS 1994 is the first game by Border Collie Games, a new solo dev game development company. ShipOS 1994 is available now on Steam, and while it’s a brand new game, basing it on the technology of 30 years ago means that it promises to offer an authentic retro aesthetic and retro gaming experience.
