Haunted: Halloween ’87 Seeks Funds to Haunt your NES

Haunted: Halloween '87 Year of the Witch title and characters

Haunted: Halloween ’87 (Year of the Witch) is an upcoming release from indie retro publishers 8-Bit Legit, who have been doing a fantastic job of keeping the NES alive (or, in this case, keeping the NES undead). For their latest release, 8-Bit Legit have teamed up with developers Retrotainment Games to bring yet another great-looking new NES game to NES consoles and PCs everywhere.

Haunted: Halloween ’87 (Year of the Witch) is the third game in the Haunted: Halloween trilogy. The Haunted: Halloween games are retro-styled action games with a horror theme that first began scaring NES and PC gamers in 2015 with Haunted: Halloween ’85, which was then followed by Haunted: Halloween ’86 (The Curse of Possum Hollow) in 2016. And now, the trilogy is set to be completed by Haunted: Halloween ’87 (Year of the Witch).

Developers Retrotainment Games are currently running a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for to publish the game. Appropriately, the final day of the campaign is Halloween itself (October 31 2024).

Rewards available via the Kickstarter include a NES cartridge of Haunted Halloween ’87, a downloadable NES ROM of Haunted: Halloween ’87 Halloween ’87, and a Steam key for Haunted Halloween ’87. Xbox and Switch releases for Haunted Halloween ’87 are also planned.

Developers Retrotainment say they were “born out of a love for the 8-bit era of gaming and retro culture. Being exposed to the golden age of gaming really left its mark on us in the early 1980s while growing up in suburbia. This prepared our young minds for what was to come in 1985… the gray box that forever changed gaming! That love has carried through to today motivating us to start Retrotainment Games.” We’re sure all the readers of this site can relate to that!
