Project S-11 is a vertical shooter released for the Game Boy Color in 2001. It was developed by Paragon 5 and published by Sunsoft. The game was only released in North America but is about to see a new lease of life thanks to an announcement from ModRetro who plan to rerelease the game in early 2025. The new carts will be compatible with original Game Boy Color handhelds as well as ModRetro’s own Chromatic handheld system.

The game itself centres on a sole operative of the Project S-11 spacecraft who is on a mission to destroy an alien attack. They must get important information about the impending invasion back to the home base through eight stages of the endless alien onslaught. Along the way, there are power-ups to find that change how players approach the gameplay.

The game has 20 different alien craft to face ranging from small craft to massive screen-filling bosses. You can change your weapon loadout with unique tools of destruction and everything is rounded out with a classic chiptune 8-bit soundtrack. Pre-orders are open now on the ModRetro website.
