Yoshi’s Egg Remake Using Pokémon Engine Discovered in Game Freak Leak

A recent leak has revealed that Game Freak, the developer known for the Pokémon series, had an unreleased project involving a remake of the 1991 puzzle game Yoshi (often referred to as Yoshi’s Egg). This remake was reportedly developed using the engine from Pokémon Black and White. The leaked information suggests that this project was part of a broader data breach affecting Game Freak, which has led to the exposure of various internal documents and game prototypes.

The remake of Yoshi’s Egg appears to be a straightforward update of the original game with enhanced visuals, but it was never officially released. The title screen of this version reads “1995,” indicating it might have been a port of a cancelled Super Nintendo version. This project seems to have been used as a test for the engine later utilized in Pokémon Black and White.

This leak is part of a larger security breach at Game Freak, which has resulted in significant amounts of internal content being shared online, including personal data of employees and other confidential information.

Game Freak has issued an apology on their website. They state the data breach occurred in August 2024 and has resulted in 2,600 pieces of employee information leaking online, including names and phone numbers. They are attempting to contact impacted personnel.
