A recent report reveals that Activision authorized and then canceled a single-player version of Crash Bandicoot 5 while focusing on live-service game opportunities. Gaming historian Liam Robertson noted that the game was in preliminary development but was shelved due to Activision‘s concerns over the sales performance of Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, which sold over five million copies. The intended sequel aimed to reintroduce classic villains, explore levels within characters’ minds, and incorporate elements from Crash Twinsanity, with both Crash and Spyro as playable characters uniting against a multiversal threat. This project was canceled around the same time as a single-player Tony Hawk Pro Skater project, leading Toys For Bob to shift its focus to the multiplayer spin-off Crash Team Rumble.
