A Nintendo World Championships Gold NES Cart Is Available For Sale For The First Time In A Decade

Nintendo has paid tribute to the classic Nintendo World Championships with a new Switch game that draws inspiration from the short-burst challenges of the NES era. The 1990 championships started in March, touring nearly 30 North American cities and concluding in December, utilizing special competition cartridges featuring modified versions of Super Mario Bros., Rad Racer, and Tetris to determine the top players.

These unique gray cartridges, equipped with dip switches for game time control, are significant in gaming history, particularly the 26 gold cartridges distributed by Nintendo Power, which have become coveted collectibles. Recently, one of these rare gold cartridges is set for Goldin auction for the first time in decade, although it is missing its label, with the auction scheduled to take place on July 22nd.
